About
My radio journey started in February of 2020 as KJ7MPI with a Technician License in the US. In May, I upgraded to General and had a vanity callsign assigned: W1KVN. I started activating POTA and WWFF references in Nevada and Utah all while exploring the outdoors. I called myself a "backpacktivator" because I would carry all of my equipment in on my back in the desert and forests of Nevada. I began learning Morse Code in September of 2020 and the love for CW was born.
With news of moving from Nevada to England, I took to the Foundation exam via remote invigilation. Having passed that, I studied for the intermediate exam and passed that as well. When I moved to England in February of 2021, I was able to apply for an intermediate callsign and found myself with 2E0NZZ. I continued to learn, practice, and explore portable radio all the while growing my proficiency with Morse Code.
In October of 2021, after having studied vigorously, I passed the Full exam. What else to go by but M0NZZ?!? I found the English Castles Awards and have begun activating those references. Not living next to the ocean, lighthouses prove more difficult but possible!
The goal for this blog is to create a space where my portable radio outings and activations can be viewed all in one place. So keep checking regularly; I plan to get out and operate portable at least twice a month. With a family, full time job, and studying towards an undergraduate degree it can be tough but I'll do my best to keep this blog alive!
Until next time, keep your batteries charged and your bags packed; you never know when the portable mood might strike.
